1. Voltage differences during charging

During charging, some cells reach the charge cut-off voltage earlier and stop charging, while other cells remain undercharged. This reduces charging efficiency and limits the available capacity of the battery pack.

2. Early capacity depletion during discharging

During discharge, certain cells may reach the discharge cut-off voltage earlier than others, causing their power to be depleted first. This limits the overall discharge performance and usable range of the battery pack.

3. Imbalance caused by long-term storage

When a battery pack is left unused for an extended period, variations in self-discharge rates among cells lead to increasing differences in voltage and state of charge, affecting performance and safety when the battery is used again.
